Café on the Common has it all - a stylish interior, delicious food and helpful staff. It’s an exceptional place to be, with stunning views and a fun atmosphere.

What makes us different is that we are a training café, which means we put every penny you spend with us into helping young adults with learning disabilities make the most of their lives.

The café is run by Mission EmployAble, a social enterprise charity founded in 2018. Each year, we take on a team of interns with learning disabilities and give them the skills and confidence to find paid work when they finish their year’s programme with us.

Our interns are hard-working, eager to please and sometimes a bit quirky. They may make the occasional mistake with your order, but please bear with them and be assured that above all, they want you to enjoy your time with us as much as they do.

We look forward to serving the many friends and supporters who helped us raise the money for Café on the Common - and to meeting new people, who, we hope, will make us their number one destination.

Whether you’re young, old or somewhere in between, a visitor to the area or a long-standing member of our community, we welcome well behaved people and friendly dogs – and vice versa.

Our Coffee

We want to keep as many of our products in line with our values as possible. That’s why our coffee comes from Redemption Roasters. This is a roastery inside HMP The Mount, a Category C men’s prison.

Working here teaches men practical skills in coffee roasting, production and logistics, and gives them the skills they need to gain secure and meaningful employment in the outside world. Some are also employed in Redemptions cafés, mainly in North London, once released as a stepping stone into employment, therefore reducing reoffending.

Redemption Roasters also source their beans in a way that prioritises empowering people who are otherwise disadvantaged or disenfranchised such as rehabilitated members of paramilitary groups, indigenous tribes, and female producers.
